Austria Burgenland

Eisenstadt is a city in Austria, the state capital of Burgenland. In the Habsburg monarchy, Kismarton (Eisenstadt) was the seat of the Eszterhazy Hungarian noble family. The composer Joseph Haydn lived there as Hofkapellmeister under Esterházy patronage. Eisenstadt lies on a plain leading down to the river Wulka, at the south foot of the Leitha Mountains, about 12 kilometres (7 miles) from the Hungarian border. The main sights include castles and palaces, as well as religious edifices, museums, and other important historical buildings. Eisenstadt hosts a Haydn festival, the Haydnfestspiele.

Neusiedl am See is located on the northern shore of the Neusiedler See. Neusiedl am See received a city charter in 1926, which had already been investigated in 1824. The place was, like the rest of Burgenland, with Hungary until 1920/21 (German West Hungary). After the end of World War II, it was awarded after tough negotiations, German West Hungary in the Treaty of St. Germain and Trianon, Austria 1919. The place has belonged since 1921 to the newly founded State of Burgenland.

Rust is a city in the Austrian state of Burgenland, located on the western shore of Lake Neusiedl near the border with Hungary. With only about 1,900 inhabitants, it is the country's smallest statutory city, as it was endowed with the rights of a royal free city by the Hungarian crown in 1681. As a Statutarstadt, it also forms an administrative district (Bezirk) in its own right. The city is famous for its wines, especially for Beerenauslese, ice wine and - especially - Ruster Ausbruch.
