Scenically situated on the banks of the Danube River, this small Bulgarian town is home to the famous Baba Vida fortress.
Vidin is a port town on the southern bank of the Danube in north-western Bulgaria. It is close to the borders with Romania and Serbia, and is the regional administrative center, as well as an agricultural and trade center. Additionally, Vidin has a fertile hinterland renowned for its wines.
This town maintains a well-preserved medieval fortress, Baba Vida, as well as many old Orthodox churches such as St Pantaleimon, St Petka (both 17th century), the 19C St Dimitar (Demetrius of Thessaloniki), and a number of old Renaissance buildings. More attractions in the area is the town of Belogradchik, famous for the medieval Belogradchik Fortress, and its unique and impressive rock formations.
