Named for the Norse god Odin in the 11C, this town is home to ecclesiastical landmarks, a few museum, and a well-restored center.
Odense is the third largest city in Denmark and the main city of the island of Funen.
Odense is known as the birthplace of Hans Christian Andersen and throughout the city there are numerous statues representing characters from his stories and a museum is located in the house is it thought he was born in.
Other landmarks in town include Nonnebakken - the site of a Viking ring castle, Saint Canute's Cathedral, St Alban's Church, Odense Palace and the Odense Zoo.
A wide variety of shops can be found in the city centre, especially on Kongensgade and Vestergade and adjacent pedestrian streets
Nightlife in the city culminates in Brandts Passage, which contains numerous restaurants, bars and cafes.
