Medan is the capital of North Sumatra province in Indonesia. Medan is third largest city in Indonesia (behind Jakarta and Surabaya), and the largest Indonesian city outside Java. Medan is inhabited by many different ethnic groups, mostly Malay, Batak, Javanese, Padang, and Chinese.
Because of its multiculturality, Medan has wide variety of cuisine which originated from Malay, Bataknese, Chinese, Indian, Minangkabau, Javanese, Arabs, and Western cuisines. This city is known as culinary heaven of Indonesia which prominent for its street hawkers offering a great variety of cuisine which often serves cheap local delicacies.
