Rothenburg is well known for its well-preserved medieval old town. It is part of the popular Romantic Road through southern Germany. In 1170 the city of Rothenburg was founded at the time of the building of Staufer Castle. In October 1631, during the Thirty Years' War, the Count of Tilly, wanted to quarter his 40,000 troops in Rothenburg. Rather than allow entrance, the town defended itself. However, Tilly's troops quickly defeated Rothenburg. and in 1634 the Black Death killed many more townsfolk. Without any money or power, Rothenburg stopped growing, thus preserving its 17th-century state. sites include The Criminal Museum, Imperial City Museum and the Rathaus (town hall).

It was, for centuries, the residence of the Dukes of Mecklenburg and today is the seat of the Landtag (state parliament). Schwerin Cathedral, built in 1260–1416 in Brick Gothic style. The Old Garden square, surrounded by buildings such as the 18th-century Old Palace, the neoclassical State Art Museum, built in 1877–1882, and the City Theater, erected in 1886. There are many parks distributed over the whole city, which makes Hamburg a very verdant city. The biggest parks are the Stadtpark, the Ohlsdorf Cemetery and Planten un Blomen.

The Hanover Zoo is one of the most spectacular and best zoos in Europe.

Bielefeld is a city in the Ostwestfalen-Lippe Region in the north-east of North-Rhine Westphalia, Germany. The historical centre of the city is situated north of the Teutoburg Forest line of hills, but modern Bielefeld also incorporates boroughs on the opposite side and on the hills. Sparrenburg Castle is Bielefeld's characteristic landmark. The Old City Hall was built in 1904 and still serves the same function. Other cultural sights of the region are the art museum, the Rudolf Oetker concert hall and the city's municipal botanical garden.

With the intention of restoring as many historic buildings as possible, the rebuilding has resulted in a very mixed and unique cityscape.
