Formerly known as Edo, it has been the de facto seat of government since 1603 when Shogun Tokugawa Ieyasu made the city his headquarters. It officially became the capital after Emperor Meiji moved his seat to the city from the old capital of Kyoto in 1868. Many tourists visit the various downtowns, stores, and entertainment districts. Among a multitude of attractions you may find museums, markets, gardens, shrines, castles, and many more.

Nikko is a city located in Tochigi Prefecture, in the northern Kanto region of Japan. Attractions include the mausoleum of shogun Tokugawa Ieyasu (Nikko Tosho-gu) and that of his grandson Iemitsu (Iemitsu-byo Taiyu-in), and the Futarasan Shrine, which dates to the year 767. There are also many famous hot springs (onsen) in the area. Elevations range from 200 to 2,000 m. Nikko is heavily dependent on tourism to its historical and scenic sites and hot spring resorts. Hydroelectric power production, food processing, and the metals industry remain important components of the economy.

Sendai is the capital city of Miyagi Prefecture, Japan, and the largest city in the Tohoku region. The city was founded in 1600 by the daimyo Date Masamune, and is nicknamed the City of Trees; there are about 60 zelkova trees on Jozenji Street and Aoba Streets. In the summer, the Sendai Tanabata Festival, the largest Tanabata festival in Japan, is held. In winter, the trees are decorated with thousands of lights for the Pageant of Starlight, lasting through most of December. Sendai is home to historical sites related to the Date clan, especially known for the mausoleum. Other attractions include a shrine, a museum, and the Aobayama hill, which affords a panoramic view of the city.

Kanazawa sits on the Sea of Japan, bordered by the Japanese Alps, Hakusan National Park and Noto Peninsula National Park. Kanazawa is known for its traditional Kaga Cuisine. Seafood is a specialty, jumbo shrimp, followed by sushi and sashimi. The sake produced in this region is of high quality, smooth and sweet, derived from the rice grown in Ishikawa Prefecture as well as the considerable precipitation of the Hokuriku region, allowing for an ample supply of clean, fresh water. Omicho market is a market in the middle of the city, originally open-air, and now covered, which dates back to the Edo period. Most of the shops there sell seafood.

Before becoming a modern city, it was part of the former Atsumi District, but it has since been designated a core city by the national government.
