Cologne was one of the most heavily bombed cities in Germany during World War II. The bombing destroyed almost the entire city. With the intention of restoring as many historic buildings as possible, the rebuilding has resulted in a very mixed and unique cityscape.

The beguinages, as well as the belfry and adjacent cloth hall, were recognized by UNESCO as World Heritage Sites. Ghent is also home to several fascinating and eclectic museums. The numerous parks in the city can also be considered to be tourist attractions. Most notably, Ghent boasts a nature reserve (Bourgoyen-Ossemeersen, 230 hectare[15]) and a recreation park (Blaarmeersen, 100 hectare).

Known as the "Venice of the North," Bruges boasts superb Flemish art, scenic canals, and a prosperous past.

Bruges has most of its medieval architecture intact. The historic centre of Bruges has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2000. Many of its medieval buildings are notable, including the Church of Our Lady, whose brick spire reaches 122.3m, making it one of the world's highest brick towers/buildings. The sculpture Madonna and Child, which can be seen in the transept, is believed to be Michelangelo's only sculpture to have left Italy within his lifetime. Bruges' most famous landmark is its 13th-century belfry, housing a municipal carillon comprising 48 bells. The city still employs a full-time carillonneur, who gives free concerts on a regular basis.

Delft is known for its historic town centre, for 17C Delft Blue pottery, for the Delft University of Technology, for the painter Vermeer and the scientist Antony van Leeuwenhoek, and for the Royal House of Orange-Nassau. Several famous painters lived and worked in Delft. They all were members of the Delft School. East of Delft is a vast nature and recreation area called the "Delftse Hout" ("Delft Wood"). Apart from a forest, through which bike, horseride and footpaths are leading, it also has a vast lake (suitable for swimming and windsurfing), beaches, a restaurant, gardens, campground and other facilities. Inside the city there are several smaller town parks and a Botanical Garden.

Bremen is a Hanseatic city in northwestern Germany. A commercial and industrial city with a major port on the River Weser. Many of the sights in Bremen are found in the Altstadt (Old Town). The oldest part of the Altstadt is the southeast half. The Market square is dominated by the opulent façade of the Town Hall of Bremen. The building was erected between 1405 and 1410 in Gothic style, but the façade was built two centuries later (1609–12) in Renaissance style. In July 2004, along with the Bremen Roland, the building was added to the list of UNESCO World Heritage Sites.

Situated on the river Trave, it was for several centuries the "capital" of the Hanseatic League. Because of its extensive Brick Gothic architecture, it is listed by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site. The old town centre is dominated by seven church steeples.
