The city is located in the Dobruja region of Romania, on the Black Sea coast. It is the capital of Constanta County and the largest city in the region and is the second largest metropolitan area in Romania. It is home to the largest port on the Black Sea, and one of the largest ports in Europe. Some of its main attractions include the gorgeous Art Nouveau casino, the Ovid Square, the Roman Mosaics, the Genoese Lighthouse, the Great Mahmudiye Mosque, and the St. Peter & Paul Orthodox Cathedral.

It is located in the Transylvania region, surrounded by the Southern Carpathians, and is notable for being the birthplace of the national anthem of Romania. With its central location, Brasov is a suitable location from which to explore Romania, and the distances to several tourist destinations are similar. It is also the largest city in a mountain resorts area. The old city is very well preserved and is best seen by taking the cable-car to the top of Tampa Mountain. Other attractions include Biserica Neagra, the Schei district, Catherine's Gate, and the Brasov Citadel.
