Aachen is a spa town in North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany. Aachen was a favoured residence of Charlemagne, and later the place of coronation of the German kings. Geographically, Aachen is the westernmost city of Germany. Aachen Cathedral was erected on the orders of Charlemagne in AD 796 and was, on completion, the largest cathedral north of the Alps. It was modelled after the Basilica of San Vitale, in Ravenna, Italy, and was built by Odo of Metz. On his death, Charlemagne's remains were interred in the cathedral and can be seen there to this day. The cathedral was extended several times in later ages, turning it into a curious and unique mixture of building styles.

Bad Mergentheim is a town in the Main-Tauber-Kreis district in the German state of Baden-Württemberg. The most interesting sight in Bad Mergentheim is the Deutschordenschloss, the medieval castle where the Teutonic Knights once had their home base. It is a complex of buildings built over a period of eight hundred years. The castle complex is dominated by the Castle Church, built in 1730 in Baroque style. Bamberg is a town in Bavaria, Germany. Its historic city center is a listed UNESCO world heritage site, primarily because of its authentic medieval appearance. The Bamberg cathedral is a late Romanesque building with four grand towers. It was founded in 1004. It was later partially destroyed by fire in 1081. The new cathedral was consecrated in 1111 and in the 13th century received its present late-Romanesque form. Of its many historic works of art may be mentioned the magnificent marble tomb of the founder and his wife, carved between 1499 and 1513. Another treasure of the cathedral is an equestrian statue known as the Bamberg Horseman, This statue dates to approximately 1200.

Torun is a city in northern Poland, on the Vistula River. It is one of the oldest cities in Poland, and its medieval old town is the birthplace of the astronomer Nicolaus Copernicus. In 1997 the medieval part of the city was designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site. In 2007 the Old Town in Torun was added to the list of Seven Wonders of Poland. National Geographic Polska rated the old town market and the Gothic town hall as one of the "30 Most Beautiful Places in the World." The city is famous for having preserved almost intact its medieval spatial layout and many Gothic buildings, all built from brick, including monumental churches, the Town Hall and many burgher houses.
