The capital and the largest city in the Czech Republic, Prague boasts a magical cityscape, rich in history and culture.

Since the fall of the Iron Curtain, Prague has become one of the world's most popular tourist destinations. It is the fifth most visited European city after London, Paris, Istanbul and Rome. Prague suffered considerably less damage during World War II than some other major cities in the region, allowing most of its historic architecture to stay true to form. It contains one of the world's most pristine and varied collections of architecture, from Romanesque, to Gothic, Renaissance, Baroque, Rococo, Neo-Renaissance, Neo-Gothic, Art Nouveau, Cubist, Neo-Classical and ultra-modern.

Czech Republic, Vysocina region

Boasting a certain rural charm and plenty of interesting history, this town offers visitors a few attractions and diverse architecture.

The town was founded in the 13C as a royal water fort on the crossroads of busy merchant routes between Bohemia, Moravia and Austria. Besides the monumental 17C Renaissance chateau with an English-style park, the most significant sight is the town square, a unique complex of long urban plaza with well-conserved Renaissance and Baroque houses with high gables and arcades. The Gothic castle was built in the second half of the 14C. At the end of the 15C, the castle fortifications were strengthened and a new gate-tower built. In the middle of the 16C, the medieval castle no longer satisfied Renaissance nobleman Zacharias of Hradec, who had the castle altered in the Renaissance style.

Small townsHistoric2 nightsTue. Jul 28 - Thu. Jul 30

This storybook town is a must-see destination, boasting diverse and colorful architecture, a medieval castle, and a vibrant atmosphere.

Cesky Krumlov Castle is unusually large for a town of Krumlov's size; within the Czech Republic it is second in extent only to the Hradcany castle complex of Prague. Cesky Krumlov Castle preserves its Baroque theatre, built from 1680-82 under Prince Johann Christian I von Eggenberg and renovated with modern (at the time) stage equipment under Josef Adam zu Schwarzenberg from 1765-66. With this original stage machinery, scenery and props it is among only a few such court theatres that still exist. Krumlov has a museum dedicated to the painter Egon Schiele, who lived in the town.

Already in the 18C the spa town was famed for its thermal springs, and now it offers an array of great eateries and elegant buildings, too!

The first Celtic settlers came there before the Middle Ages. In 14C, Charles IV, Holy Roman Emperor and Czech king, gave the privileges to the city. According to legend after he had acclaimed the healing power of the hot springs. Earlier settlements can be found in the outskirts of today's city. In 19C, it became a popular tourist destination, especially for international celebrities visiting for spa treatment. The city is also known for the Karlovy Vary International Film Festival, which has become one of Europe's major film events. The famous Karlovarske oplatky (Carlsbad spa wafers) originated in the city in 1867. The city has also given its name to the delicacy known as "Carlsbad plums".
