Passau is a town in Lower Bavaria, Germany. It is also known as the "City of Three Rivers," because the Danube is joined at Passau by the Inn from the south and the Ilz from the north. With 17,774 pipes and 233 registers, the organ at St. Stephen's was long held to be the largest church pipe organ in the world and is today second in size only to the organ at First Congregational Church, Los Angeles. Organ concerts are held daily between May and September. St.Stephen's is a true masterpiece of Italian Baroque. Many river cruises down the Danube start at Passau and there is a cycling path all the way down to Vienna. It is also notable for its gothic and baroque architecture.

Cesky Krumlov

Czech Republic, South Bohemian region

Small townsHistoric4 nightsFri. Oct 11 - Tue. Oct 15

This storybook town is a must-see destination, boasting diverse and colorful architecture, a medieval castle, and a vibrant atmosphere.

Cesky Krumlov Castle is unusually large for a town of Krumlov's size; within the Czech Republic it is second in extent only to the Hradcany castle complex of Prague. Cesky Krumlov Castle preserves its Baroque theatre, built from 1680-82 under Prince Johann Christian I von Eggenberg and renovated with modern (at the time) stage equipment under Josef Adam zu Schwarzenberg from 1765-66. With this original stage machinery, scenery and props it is among only a few such court theatres that still exist. Krumlov has a museum dedicated to the painter Egon Schiele, who lived in the town.

Telc

Czech Republic, Vysocina region

Small townsHistoricNatureActive4 nightsTue. Oct 15 - Sat. Oct 19

Boasting a certain rural charm and plenty of interesting history, this town offers visitors a few attractions and diverse architecture.

The town was founded in the 13C as a royal water fort on the crossroads of busy merchant routes between Bohemia, Moravia and Austria. Besides the monumental 17C Renaissance chateau with an English-style park, the most significant sight is the town square, a unique complex of long urban plaza with well-conserved Renaissance and Baroque houses with high gables and arcades. The Gothic castle was built in the second half of the 14C. At the end of the 15C, the castle fortifications were strengthened and a new gate-tower built. In the middle of the 16C, the medieval castle no longer satisfied Renaissance nobleman Zacharias of Hradec, who had the castle altered in the Renaissance style.

Tabor

Czech Republic, South Bohemian region

NatureActiveHistoricSmall towns3 nightsSat. Oct 19 - Tue. Oct 22

A city with an interesting cityscape, Tabor is home to some historic sites, including a system of tunnels beneath the Old Town.

Though a large part of the ancient fortifications has been demolished, Tabor still preserves many memorials of its past fame. In the centre of the city is Zizka Square. Only very narrow streets lead to it, to rendering reaching it more difficult in time of war. First-time visitors will not even suspect that there is an ingenious labyrinth of tunnels under the houses and streets here. The townspeople dug cellars under their houses and these were subsequently interconnected; an approximately 1 km-long section of the tunnel system is open to the public. Major parts of the ancient fortifications and the ancient Kotnov tower and gate of Bechyně near the tower still exist.

Prague

Czech Republic, Central Bohemian region

HistoricCultureFoodNight life1 nightTue. Oct 22 - Wed. Oct 23

The capital and the largest city in the Czech Republic, Prague boasts a magical cityscape, rich in history and culture.

Since the fall of the Iron Curtain, Prague has become one of the world's most popular tourist destinations. It is the fifth most visited European city after London, Paris, Istanbul and Rome. Prague suffered considerably less damage during World War II than some other major cities in the region, allowing most of its historic architecture to stay true to form. It contains one of the world's most pristine and varied collections of architecture, from Romanesque, to Gothic, Renaissance, Baroque, Rococo, Neo-Renaissance, Neo-Gothic, Art Nouveau, Cubist, Neo-Classical and ultra-modern.
