The capital of Portugal, Lisbon is a lively city filled with restaurants, shops, buzzing nightlife, and historical sites.

Lisbon is the capital and the largest city of Portugal. Lisbon is one of the oldest cities in the world, and the oldest in Western Europe, predating other modern European capitals such as London, Paris and Rome by centuries. Julius Caesar made it a municipium called Felicitas Julia, adding to the name Olissipo. Ruled by a series of Germanic tribes from the 5th century, it was captured by the Moors in the 8th century. In 1147, the Crusaders reconquered the city and since then it has been a major political, economic and cultural centre of Portugal. Lisbon enjoys a Mediterranean climate. Among all the metropolises in Europe, it has the warmest winters.

A charming medieval village, set on an 800m high summit, offering spectacular views of the surrounding mountains and countryside.

Marvao was included in the #1 New York Times bestselling book, '1000 Places to see Before you Die'. Jose Saramago wrote, ‘‘From Marvao one can see the entire land... It is understandable that from this place, high up in the keep at Marvao Castle, visitors may respectfully murmur, ‘How great is the world.’’ In the 1950s, Huldine V. Beamish wrote of Marvao 'There is an atmosphere about the district that is very ancient. At times you have the same peculiar feelings as those evoked by Stonehenge and that amazing druid monument at Callernish in the Isle of Lewis. Picking your way along the steep stony pathways, you would not be at all surprised to meet a Phoenician trader or Roman Soldier."
