Avignon is a French commune in southeastern France, bordered by the left bank of the Rhֳ´ne river. Of the 94,787 inhabitants of the city, about 12,000 live in the ancient town center surrounded by its medieval ramparts. Often referred to as the "City of Popes" because of the presence of popes and anti popes from 1309 to 1423 during the Catholic schism. This is one of the few French cities to have preserved its ramparts. In addition, its historic center, the palace of the popes, Rocher des Doms, and the bridge of Avignon are well-preserved.

Full of energy and architectural treasures, Avignon is an excellent base from which to explore Western Provence.

It remains one of the most famous and fancy ski resorts in the world.

Luxurious hotels and fantastic restaurants are all part of this town, with skiing in the winter and hiking in the summer to fill up your days.

Dijon

France, Burgundy region

FoodCultureHistoricNight life2 nightsSun. Jan 11 - Tue. Jan 13

Dijon is a city in eastern France, and is the capital of the Burgundy region. The city has retained varied architectural styles from many of the main periods of the past millennium, including Capetian, Gothic and Renaissance. Many still-inhabited town houses in the city's central district date from the 18th century and earlier. Dijon architecture is distinguished by, among other things, toits bourguignons (Burgundian polychrome roofs) made of tiles glazed in terracotta, green, yellow and black and arranged in geometric patterns. The historical center of the city has been registered since July 4, 2015 as a UNESCO World Heritage site.

Between Paris and Lyon, Dijon is the perfect place to sample Burgundian cuisine and admire Medieval architecture.
