One of the oldest is Dublin Castle, which was first founded as a major defensive work on the orders of King John of England in 1204. Kilkenny is a city located in south-east part of Ireland and the county town of the eponymous County Kilkenny. It is built on both banks of the River Nore in the province of Leinster. Kilkenny is regarded for its culture with craft and design workshops, the Watergate Theatre, public gardens and museums. Annual events include Kilkenny Art Festival, the Cat Laughs comedy festival and music at the Rhythm and Roots festival and the Source concert. It is a popular base to explore the surrounding towns, villages and countryside.

The only town on the Dingle Peninsula, Dinglesits on the Atlantic coast. In Ireland the town was developed as a port following the Norman invasion of Ireland. The Dingle Peninsula was the scene of much of the military activity of 1579–80. On 17 July 1579 James FitzMaurice FitzGerald brought a small fleet of ships to Dingle. He made landfall, launching the Second Desmond Rebellion. sites in Dingle include St. Mary's church, which was a neo-Gothic church built to designs by J. J. McCarthy. Since 1984 a common bottlenose dolphin has frequented the Dingle harbour area. He has been given the name Fungie. He regularly shows up when tour boats go out to meet him.

Westport is a town in County Mayo in Ireland. It is at the south-east corner of Clew Bay, an inlet of the Atlantic Ocean on the west coast of Ireland. The town centre was designed by James Wyatt in 1780, in the Georgian architectural style and is one of only a few planned towns in the country. It was the home of the pirate chief Grace O'Malley in the mid-to-late 16th century. in 2012 it also won the Best Place to Live in Ireland competition run by The Irish Times. Visitors visit Westport for several reasons: the scenery; the pubs and restaurants in the town; blue flag beaches; and Croagh Patrick. its hotels and guest houses, make it a base for holidaymakers to tour the region.

Portrush is also home to Barry's Amusements, the largest amusement park in Northern Ireland. The Skerries, a collection of rocks located just off the coast, are an important habitat for several species, some unique to Northern Ireland.
