The site of a decisive 18C battle, Poltava is a city soaked with history, and abounds with architectural and cultural treasures.

Poltava is a city located on the Vorskla River in central Ukraine. It is the administrative center of the Poltava Oblast (province), as well as the surrounding Poltava Raion (district) of the oblast. It is still unknown when Poltava was founded, although the town was not attested before 1174. However, for reasons unknown, municipal authorities chose to celebrate the city's 1100th anniversary in 1999. The settlement is indeed an old one, as archaeologists unearthed a Paleolithic dwelling as well as Scythian remains within the city limits. Its main sights are White Arbor, Poltava Art Museum, Museum of Poltava Battle History, Aviation Museum, Bell Tower of Assumption Cathedral, and more.

Turnhout is known for its playing card industry, as it houses the head office of the world's largest manufacturer of playing cards, Cartamundi. Architectural sights worth visiting are the 12th century castle of the Dukes of Brabant, the gothic church of St. Peter, the beguinage (begijnhof) dating from the 13th century, the 14th century Gothic chapel of Theobald and the Taxandria museum housed in a prestigious renaissance mansion. Of particular interest is the Museum of the Playing Card. This is located in an old factory building downtown and houses a beautifully restored steam engine. The beguinage was recognized by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site in 1998.

Modern additions include the University of Kent, Canterbury Christ Church University, the University College for the Creative Arts, The American University - Canterbury, the Marlowe Theatre, and the St Lawrence Ground, home to Kent County Cricket Club.

It is a conurbation of the six town of Tunstall, Burslem, Hanley, Stoke, Fenton and Longton and the city centre is usually regarded as being in Hanley. Considered to be the home of the pottery industry in England, the town has several ceramics museum, including the Potteries Museum & Art Gallery and Wedgwood Museum. The Alton Towers Resort is 10 miles east of Stoke-on-Trent and is one of the United Kingdom's best known attractions. The Waterworld indoor swimming complex on Festival Park near Hanley is also a significant children's attraction.
