Stockholm is the cultural, political and economic centre of Sweden. The city houses some 100 museums and the most renowned is the National museum. Another prized museum is the Vasa Museum. Stockholm region is home to three of Sweden's World Heritage Sites: Drottningholm Palace, Skogskyrkogården and Birka. Another tourist attraction is Gröna Lund - an amusement park located on the island of Djurgården. As of 2013 Stockholm boasts several Michelin star restaurants, two of which have two stars.

It is built on the river delta where Sweden's longest river, Klarälven, runs into Sweden's largest lake, Vänern. Karlstad is reputed to be one of the sunniest towns in Sweden. On Karlstad's largest islet, there was a place of counsel called Tingvalla in the medieval age, which had roots from the Viking Age before 1000 AD. It was also used as a market place.
