Prague

Czech Republic, Central Bohemian region

HistoricCultureFoodNight life3 nights

The capital and the largest city in the Czech Republic, Prague boasts a magical cityscape, rich in history and culture.

Since the fall of the Iron Curtain, Prague has become one of the world's most popular tourist destinations. It is the fifth most visited European city after London, Paris, Istanbul and Rome. Prague suffered considerably less damage during World War II than some other major cities in the region, allowing most of its historic architecture to stay true to form. It contains one of the world's most pristine and varied collections of architecture, from Romanesque, to Gothic, Renaissance, Baroque, Rococo, Neo-Renaissance, Neo-Gothic, Art Nouveau, Cubist, Neo-Classical and ultra-modern.

Brno

Czech Republic, South Moravian region

Night lifeHistoricCulture2 nights

Initially an industrial hub, the Czech Republic's second largest city in fact offers a thriving cultural scene and nearby historic relics.

Brno is the second largest city in the Czech Republic. The most visited sights of the city include the Spilberk castle and fortress and the Cathedral of Saints Peter and Paul on Petrov hill, two medieval buildings that dominate the cityscape and are often depicted as its traditional symbols. The other large preserved castle near the city is Veveri Castle by the Brno Dam Lake. This castle is the site of a number of legends, as are many other places in Brno. Another architectural monument of Brno is the functionalist Villa Tugendhat which has been included on the UNESCO list of World Heritage Sites. One of the natural sights nearby is the Moravian Karst.

Small townsHistoricNatureActive1 night

Boasting a certain rural charm and plenty of interesting history, this town offers visitors a few attractions and diverse architecture.

The town was founded in the 13C as a royal water fort on the crossroads of busy merchant routes between Bohemia, Moravia and Austria. Besides the monumental 17C Renaissance chateau with an English-style park, the most significant sight is the town square, a unique complex of long urban plaza with well-conserved Renaissance and Baroque houses with high gables and arcades. The Gothic castle was built in the second half of the 14C. At the end of the 15C, the castle fortifications were strengthened and a new gate-tower built. In the middle of the 16C, the medieval castle no longer satisfied Renaissance nobleman Zacharias of Hradec, who had the castle altered in the Renaissance style.

Czech Republic, Karlovy Vary region

NatureSmall townsHistoricActiveCulture1 night

Surrounded by lush mountains, this gorgeous spa town boasts rich history, thermal springs, beautiful architecture, and many parks.

The town, surrounded by green mountains, is a mosaic of parks and noble houses. Most of its buildings come from the town's Golden Era in the second half of 19C, when many celebrities and top European rulers came to enjoy the 100 curative carbon dioxide springs. Most of them are well-kept and often pavilions and/or colonnades are built around them. Because of the diverse number of visitors the town is able to maintain churches of several denominations. These include the Anglican Church, which is no longer in use as a place of worship and is now a concert hall.
