HistoricCultureNight life2 nights

With an impressive cultural and economic history, some claim Trier as the oldest city in Germany, going back to the 16C BC.

Trier, historically called Treves in English, is a city in Germany on the banks of the Moselle. It may be the oldest city in Germany, founded in or before 16 BCE. The city is the oldest seat of a Christian bishop north of the Alps. Trier is known for its well-preserved Roman and medieval buildings, which include: The Porta Nigra, the best-preserved Roman city gate north of the Alps; Ruins of three Roman baths, among them the largest Roman baths north of the Alps; The huge Constantine Basilica, a basilica in the original Roman sense. Strasbourg harmoniously combines its governmental importance with the wonder generated by great museums and superb architecture.

Strasbourg is the capital city of the Alsace region in eastern France and is the official seat of the European Parliament. Strasbourg's historic city center, the Grande ֳŽle, was classified a World Heritage site by UNESCO in 1988, the first time such an honor was placed on an entire city center. The city is chiefly known for its sandstone Gothic Cathedral with its famous astronomical clock, and for its medieval cityscape of Rhineland black and white timber-framed buildings, particularly in the Petite France district or Gerberviertel ("tanners' district") alongside the Ill and in the streets and squares surrounding the cathedral, where the renowned Maison Kammerzell stands out.

Dijon

France, Burgundy region

FoodCultureHistoricNight life1 night

Between Paris and Lyon, Dijon is the perfect place to sample Burgundian cuisine and admire Medieval architecture.

Dijon is a city in eastern France, and is the capital of the Burgundy region. The city has retained varied architectural styles from many of the main periods of the past millennium, including Capetian, Gothic and Renaissance. Many still-inhabited town houses in the city's central district date from the 18th century and earlier. Dijon architecture is distinguished by, among other things, toits bourguignons (Burgundian polychrome roofs) made of tiles glazed in terracotta, green, yellow and black and arranged in geometric patterns. The historical center of the city has been registered since July 4, 2015 as a UNESCO World Heritage site.
