Yogyakarta has several historical tourist attractions as the Candi Prambanan temple, museums in the royal court, and museums in colonial buildings such as the Fort Vredeburg Museum, a former Dutch fort. Due to the importance of Yogyakarta during the war of independence from the Dutch, there are numerous memorials and museums such as the Monument to the Recapture of Yogyakarta. To the east of the town center is the large Air Force Museum.

The residence of Tjokorda Gede Agung Sukawati, the last ruling monarch of Ubud. A number of Hindu temples exist, such as Pura Desa Ubud, which is the main temple, Pura Taman Saraswati, and Pura Dalem Agung Padangtegal, the temple of death. The Gunung Kawi temple is the site of the royal tombs.

Other interesting destinations include: Masjid Cheng Ho (Zheng He Mosque), a recently built mosque, the first in Indonesia with Chinese-style architecture; Tugu Pahlawan (Hero monument), a 41 meter high monument, is the main symbol of Surabaya and commemorates the heroes of the revolutionary struggle; and Pantai Kenjeran (Kenjeran Beach), located in the eastern of Surabaya.
