Liechtenstein Oberland

Vaduz is the capital of Liechtenstein and the seat of the national parliament and is located along the Rhine. Vaduz has a lively tourist industry and the most prominent landmark of Vaduz is Vaduz Castle, the home of the reigning prince of Liechtenstein and is visible from almost any location in Vaduz. The Cathedral of St. Florin, Government House and City Hall are also well-known landmarks, displaying the various styles and periods of architecture that the city is known for. The National Art Gallery as well as the National Museum are located in Vaduz. The art gallery a museum of modern and contemporary art, also showing displays from the private princely Liechtenstein Collection.

Schaan is the largest municipality of Liechtenstein by population and area. It is located to the north of Vaduz, the capital. Schaan borders the town of Buchs in Switzerland. and the municipality includes the village of Mühleholz and the Naafkopf, one of the two tripoints between Liechtenstein, Switzerland and Austria.

Malbun is the only resort for skiing in Liechtenstein. It is located at 1,600 metres (5,249 feet) above sea level in the Alps, on a road to Steg and Vaduz, and less than two kilometers from the Austrian border.

Balzers is a village and community located in southern Liechtenstein, and the main part of the village is situated along the east bank of the Rhine. Historically, the present-day village consists of two different villages, the actual Balzers in the east and Mäls in the west. The division still persists in the local village culture, where it manifests in half-serious local competition. Some customs, such as the "Funken" a springtime ritual with pre-Christian origins involving a huge bonfire, are still being practised by each separately. Balzers is the home of the Burg Gutenberg, a 12th-century castle which is located on a rocky hill in the center of the town.
