  • Velas - Ilha São Jorge - Açores

    Velas is a municipality in the São Jorge Island, in the Portuguese autonomous region of Azores. The municipality of Velas occupies half the island of São Jorge, from the northwest coast to the interior around Pico Gordo. The western plateau is interrupted by several communities like São Pedro, Ribeirinho, Canadinha Nova and Norte Grande. The extreme coastal communities are relatively detached from the rest of these settlements and include Fajã da Ribeira Areia, Fajá do Ouvidor (the only fajã with road access) and several more.

  • Igreja da Conceicao

    Angra do Heroísmo referred to as Angra, is a municipality and city on the island of Terceira, within the Portuguese autonomous region of the Azores and is one of the three regional capitals of the Azores. The historic centre of Angra is located along the southern coast, encompassing the medieval city and fortified citadel that forms the volcanic cone of Monte Brasil. Angra is dominated by the Old Square, broad and orderly, joining two of the old town's main arteries. Local landmarks include the Manor of Dona Vilonate do Canto, Palace of the Bettencourts, and Palace of the Captains-General.

    Sao Miguel Island, named for the Archangel Michael or, literally, Portuguese for Saint Michael, is also referred to locally as "The Green Island", and is the largest and most populous island in the Portuguese archipelago of the Azores

  • Calheta

    Calheta is a municipality on the southwest coast of Madeira, Portugal, located west of Santana, Machico and Funchal, along the southern roadway. Agriculture and the fishery provides the primary sources of income in this area, although minor commercial establishments are concentrated in the principal village in the municipality - Calheta parish. The municipality includes eight parishes in total - Arco da Calheta, Calheta, Estreito da Calheta, Fajã da Ovelha, Jardim do Mar, Paúl do Mar, Ponta do Pargo, and Prazeres.

  • Praia da Vitória

    Praia da Vitória is a municipality in Portugal's Autonomous Region of the Azores, on the island of Terceira. Praia da Vitória occupies the northern coast of the island and extends halfway into the interior having at its frontiers Pico Alto and the shield volcano of Santa Bárbara. The town boasts two notable churches, several public squares, and a number of hotels and restaurants. A large public park atop the ridge affords excellent views of the surrounding countryside and the Atlantic Ocean. It is a popular location for windsurfers because of the constant stiff seabreeze. Praia da Vitoria hosts an annual triathlon and is known for its unique style of bullfighting, tourada à corda.

  • Furnas

    Furnas is a civil parish in the municipality of Povoação on the island of São Miguel in the Portuguese Azores. The parish is one of the largest in the island and in the Azores. It is located east of Lagoa and Ponta Delgada, west of Povoação and southeast of Ribeira Grande. Furnas is located in the easternmost of three active trachytic volcanoes on the island of São Miguel, in the historically active Volcanic Complex of Furnas. Local attractions include the Thermal Spa of Furnas, Park of Terra Nostra, Park and Residence of the Murtas, the Chapel of Nossa Senhora das Vitórias and the Hermitage of Santa Ana.

  • Porto Pim

    Horta is a single municipality and city in the western part of the Archipelago of the Azores, encompassing the island of Faial. The city of Horta is typical of insular Portuguese coastal communities and the urban tradition of the medieval-renaissance. the town is centered along its principal avenue, referred to as either Avenida Marginal or Avenida D. Another noteworthy area is around Rua da Conceição st. with the Pelourinho, the Casa da Câmara and older urban prison (Cadeia), the Convent of Glory, this area constituted the original Vila of Horta. The oldest dwellings and the older ornate façades are located in this area.

  • Vila Franca do Campo

    Vila Franca do Campo is a town and municipality in the southern part of the island of São Miguel in the Portuguese Autonomous Region of the Azores. Vila Franca do Campo Municipality is located east of Ponta Delgada, while it is linked by mountain roads to the eastern and northern communities. Most of the mountainous areas of the municipality are forested, interspersed with pasturelands and fields dedicated to agriculture and grazing. Local landmarks include the Estate of the Viscount Botelho, Lighthouse of Ponta Garça, Calhau da Areia beach and The Church of São Lázaro.

  • Vila do Porto, Santa Maria 034

    Vila do Porto is the single municipality, the name of the main town and one of the civil parishes on the island of Santa Maria, in the Portuguese archipelago of Azores. Santa Maria was the first island in the archipelago to be discovered by Diogo Silves and so the island was originally setteled in 1439. The municipality covers the entirety of the island of Santa Maria and its principal urban area is located along linear tracts in the southwestern coast.

  • Sta Cruz da Graciosa

    Santa Cruz da Graciosa is a Portuguese municipality on the island of Graciosa, in the archipelago of the Azores. Graciosa Island is divided into four civil parishes: Santa Cruz - the seat of the municipality and principal urbanized population on the island, located on eastern coast;•São Mateus da Praia - a historic village and once-municipal seat, until it was unincorporated in the 19th century; Guadalupe - the principal rural population on the island; Luz - civil parish better known locally as "Sul" (South), located along the southern coast of the island.

  • UNESCO World Heritage Site

    Madalena is a municipality along the western coast of the island of Pico, in the Portuguese Azores. Some noteworthy locations are: Cais do Mourato and Cachorro, both "resort towns", and the latter is the location of a chapel known for a traditional penitential pilgrimage; and Cabeço Chao an area with a micro-climate. Criação Velha - an area of relatively older history, is considered the true home of verdelho wine. Madalena - The trading and communications centre of the island. São Mateus - One of the oldest villages on the island, who is recognized for its lace-makers, who produce embroidery and crochet work.
