Câmara de Lobos is a municipality, parish and city in the south-central coast of the island of Madeira. Technically a suburb of the much larger capital city of Funchal. Located within the metropolitan zone of Funchal, it is borderd to the east by Funchal, to the west by Ribeira Brava and north by Santana and São Vicent while fronting the Atlantic Ocean to the south. Located some 29 kilometres from Câmara de Lobos is Curral das Freiras is an isolated parish situated in a deep valley and encircled by steep mountain slopes in the mountainous interior of the island. It is know, along with the rest of the island for the cultivation of grapes for the production of Madeira Wine.
