The second largest city in Slovenia, Maribor is a university city, home to plenty of historic sites, diverse architecture, and parks.
Maribor is the second-largest city in Slovenia.
Many medieval structures still stand in Maribor. Of the remains of city walls, the most prominent are the Judgement Tower, the Water Tower, and the Jewish Tower. The Maribor Cathedral was built in the Gothic style in the 13th century. The Town Hall was constructed in the Renaissance style.
Every January the skiing resort of Mariborsko Pohorje, situated on the outskirts of the city on the slopes of the Pohorje mountain range, hosts the women's slalom and giant slalom races for the Alpine Skiing World Cup known as Zlata lisica.
Every June the two-week Festival Lent is held, with hundreds of musical, theatrical and other events.
