  • Ayutthaya

    Ayutthaya (full name Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya; also spelled "Ayudhya") is the former capital of Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya province in Thailand. Located in the valley of the Chao Phraya River, the city was founded in 1351 by King U Thong, who had proclaimed it the capital of his kingdom, often referred to as the Ayutthaya kingdom or Siam. It is estimated that Ayutthaya reached population of 1,000,000 around 1700 CE, making it one of the world's largest cities at that time. In 1767, the city was destroyed by the Burmese army, resulting in the collapse of the kingdom. The ruins of the old city are preserved in the Ayutthaya historical park.

  • Pai

    Pai is a small town in northern Thailand's Mae Hong Son Province, near the Myanmar border, about 146km north-west of Chiang Mai on the northern route to Mae Hong Son. It lies on the Pai River. Today, Pai primarily thrives on tourism. Well-known among backpackers for its relaxed atmosphere, the town is full of cheap guesthouses, souvenir shops, and restaurants. In the environs of the town are spas and elephant camps. Further outside of town, there are several waterfalls and a number of natural hot springs. As Pai lies at the foot of the mountains, many tourists use it as a base for trekking and visiting hill tribes. Other attractions include the market and local cultures.

  • Cliché

    Sukhothai was the capital of the Sukhothai Kingdom. Sukhothai is 12 km west of the modern city of New Sukhothai. Sukhothai was the capital of the Thai Empire for approximately 140 years. As of 2014, 193 temples have been excavated and partly reconstructed. The stele of Ram Khamhaeng states the city had a triple wall and four gates. The Aranyika monastery was west of the city, a great lake to the east, a market to the north, and the Khao Luang hill to the south. Old Sukhothai is a quiet town with almost no hotels. Most visitors stay in New Sukhothai or in the nearby city of Phitsanulok, which has numerous hotels and restaurants and is on the rail line.

  • Phitsanulok

    Phitsanulok is an important, historic city in lower northern Thailand and is the capital of Phitsanulok Province, which stretches all the way to the Laotian border. Phitsanulok is one of the oldest cities in Thailand, founded over 600 years ago. Phitsanulok's main tourist attraction is Wat Phra Sri Rattana Mahathat, known locally simply as Wat Yai. This famous temple, built in 1357, is home to the Phra Buddha Chinnarat, which is one of the most revered Buddha figures in Thailand, and the official symbol of Phitsanulok Province. The Buddha Chinnarat National Museum, on the temple grounds, houses a sizeable collection of Sukhothai period art. A large fair is held at the temple every January.

  • TH-Kamphaeng Phet-Ville (30)

    Kamphaeng Phet is a town in central Thailand, former capital of the Kamphaeng Phet Province. It covers the complete tambon Nai Mueang of the Mueang Kamphaeng Phet district. As of 2005 it has a population of 30,114. When visiting, make sure to see the Kamphaeng Phet Historical park, the national museums, and the town's temples.

  • Lopburi

    Lopburi is the capital city of Lopburi Province in Thailand. It is about 150km north-east of Bangkok. Today the city is best known for the hundreds of crab-eating macaques that live in the middle of the city, especially around the Khmer temple, Prang Sam Yot and a Khmer shrine, Sarn Phra Karn. They are fed by the local people, especially during the Monkey Festival in November. Because they are not afraid of humans, they steal whatever items or food they can find from unwary visitors. Don't miss out the historic landmarks of the city.

  • Ancient City Samut Prakan

    Samut Prakan is part of the Bangkok Metropolitan Region. The province was created during the Ayutthaya period. It was the sea port of Siam, and was secured with forts, town moats, and town walls. King Rama II started the building of the new center at Samut Prakan in 1819, after his predecessor King Taksin had abandoned the town fortifications. Six forts were built on both sides of the Chao Phraya River, and on an island in the river the pagoda, but of the original six forts only two still exist today.

    Nakhon Pathom is a city in central Thailand, former capital of the Nakhon Pathom Province. One of the most important landmarks is the giant Phra Pathom Chedi. The city is also home to Thailand's only Bhikkhuni temple Wat Song Thammakanlayani, which is also open to women from abroad. Its attractions include a lovely temple and a palace.

    Suphan Buri is a town in central Thailand. Suphan Buri lies on the Tha Chin River (known locally as the Suphan River), at an elevation of 11m. The surrounding area is low-lying and flat, with rice farms covering much of the land.

    Nonthaburi is the principal city of the district and province of the same name in Thailand. It has city municipality status and covers five subdistricts of Mueang Nonthaburi District: Suan Yai, Talat Khwan, Bang Khen, Bang Kraso and Tha Sai. As of January 2012, it has a registered population of 258,550, making it the most populous city municipality in Thailand (excluding Bangkok). Due to its location close to Bangkok the city is actually a suburb of Bangkok, part of the Bangkok Metropolitan Area, or Greater Bangkok. Nonthaburi is served by public transport systems including the Bangkok Mass Transit Authority bus system, the Chao Phraya Express Boat, and the under-construction MRT Purple Line.
