Turkey Southeastern Anatolia Sanliurfa
Historic Places
Sanlıurfa, often simply known as Urfa in daily language, is a city in southeastern Turkey, and the capital of Sanlıurfa Province. It is a city with a primarily Arab, Kurdish and Turkmen population. The history of Sanlıurfa is recorded from the 4th century BC, but may date back at least to 9000 BC, when there is ample evidence for the surrounding sites at Duru, Harran and Nevali Cori. Chief points of interests in the city are Sanliurfa Castle, the Pool of Sacred Fish, Rizvaniye Mosque, the Sanliurfa Bazaar, Sanliurfa Museum, and the Cave of Abraham, where he was purportedly born.
