  • College Rooftops

    The city of Cambridge is a university town and the administrative centre of the county of Cambridgeshire, England. It lies in East Anglia, on the River Cam. There is archaeological evidence of settlement in the area during the Bronze Age and Roman times; under Viking rule Cambridge became an important trading centre. Cambridge is most widely known as the home of the University of Cambridge, founded in 1209 and consistently ranked one of the top five universities in the world. The university includes the renowned Cavendish Laboratory, King's College Chapel, and the Cambridge University Library.

    Lincoln is a cathedral city and county town of Lincolnshire, England. Lincoln developed from the Roman town of Lindum Colonia, which developed from an Iron Age settlement. Lincoln's major landmarks are Lincoln Cathedral, a fine example of English Gothic architecture, and Lincoln Castle, an 11th-century Norman castle. The city is also home to the University of Lincoln and Bishop Grosseteste University.

  • St Mary's Bridge, Stamford

    Stamford is a town and civil parish on the River Welland in the South Kesteven district of the county of Lincolnshire, England. The town is best known for its core of 17th–18th century stone buildings, older timber framed buildings and five medieval parish churches. Much of town centre was built in the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries, in Jacobean or Georgian style. Stamford is characterised by street after street of timber-framed and stone buildings (using the local limestone that Lincoln Cathedral is built from), little shops tucked down back alleys

  • Ely, Cambridgeshire January 2010

    Ely is a cathedral city in Cambridgeshire, England. Ely is built on a 23-square-mile (60 km2) Kimmeridge Clay island which is the highest land in the fens. There are two Sites of Special Scientific Interest in the city: a former Kimmeridge Clay quarry, and one of the United Kingdom's best remaining examples of medieval ridge and furrow agriculture. Cherry Hill, to the south of Cathedral Park, is the remains of the Norman period, motte and bailey, Ely Castle. The earliest written record of this 40 feet (12 m) high by 250 feet (76 m) diameter castle is in the time of Henry I.

    King's Lynn, also known as Lynn and until 1537 as Bishop's Lynn, is a seaport and market town in the ceremonial county of Norfolk in the East of England. It lies 156km north of London and 71km west of Norwich. The population of the town is 42,800. The town has two theaters, museums and other cultural and sporting venues. There are three secondary schools and one college. The service sector, information and communication technologies and creative industries, provide limited employment for the population of King's Lynn and the surrounding area.

    Long Melford is a large village and civil parish in the county of Suffolk, England. The parish also includes the hamlets of Bridge Street and Cuckoo Tye. The great size and fine architecture of Holy Trinity Church make it unusual for a village parish church. The church dates from the reign of Edward the Confessor; it was then substantially rebuilt between 1467 and 1497. Another unusual feature of Long Melford is its large elongated village green.

  • Peterborough

    Peterborough is a Cathedral City and Unitary Authority Area in the East of England. Human settlement in the area began before the Bronze Age, as can be seen at the Flag Fen archaeological site to the east of the current city centre also with evidence of Roman occupation. The Anglo-Saxon period saw the establishment of a monastery, Medeshamstede, which later became Peterborough Cathedral. The Cathedral Church of Saint Peter, Saint Paul and Saint Andrew, whose statues look down from the three high gables of the West Front, was originally founded as a monastery in AD 655 and re-built in its present form between 1118 and 1238.

  • Flatford sluice and river Stour

    Dedham is a village within the borough of Colchester in northeast Essex, England, situated on the River Stour and on the border of Essex and Suffolk. Dedham contains a number of well-preserved buildings: Dedham Parish Church - St. Mary the Virgin; the present building dates from the late 15th century, and was the last medieval 'wool church' to be completed. Sherman's Hall, a Georgian-fronted townhouse. The Sun Inn, a medieval building that retains its coaching arch. A Congregational church built in 1739 is now the Dedham Art and Craft Centre. Southfields is the most splendid of the many medieval buildings in the village. It is now a series of cottages.
