    Bowness-on-Windermere is a town in South Lakeland, Cumbria, England. Due to its position on the banks of Windermere, the town has become a tourist honeypot. Although their mutual growth has caused them to become one large settlement, the town is distinct from the town of Windermere as the two still have distinguishable town centres. Historically part of Westmorland, in 2012, Bowness was one of the official stop off points for the Olympic torch before it made its way to the Olympic Games opening ceremony

  • Keswick

    Keswick is a market town and civil parish within the Borough of Allerdale in Cumbria, England. Keswick is the home of the modern Theatre by the Lake which is the permanent home for repertoire and festivals. The town is also the site of the Cumberland Pencil Museum. This details the manufacturing history of pencils and shows how pencils have been used through the ages. Castlerigg stone circle, a well preserved prehistoric monument, is 2 miles (3.2 km) away.

  • Warwick

    Warwick is the county town of Warwickshire, England. The town lies upon the River Avon. There has been human activity at Warwick as early as the Neolithic, and constant habitation since the 6th century. Warwick Castle was established on the site in 1068 as part of the Norman conquest of England. During the medieval period Warwick was given town walls; Eastgate and Westgate survive. The castle developed into a stone fortress and then a country house and is today a popular tourist attraction.

  • The old house with the new houses

    Penrith is a market town in the county of Cumbria, England. Penrith lies at the boundaries of the Lake District National Park. The main church is St. Andrew's, built from 1720 to 1722 in an imposing Grecian style, abutting an earlier 13th-century tower. The churchyard has some ancient crosses and hogback tombstones in it known now as "Giant's Grave", and "Giant's Thumb" which is the remains of a Norse cross dated to 920 AD. The ruins of Penrith Castle (14th-16th century) can be seen from the adjacent railway station. To the south-east of the town are the ruins of Brougham Castle. To the south of the town are the ancient henge sites known as Mayburgh Henge and King Arthur's Round Table.

  • Grasmere

    Grasmere is a village, and popular tourist destination, in the centre of the English Lake District. It takes its name from the adjacent lake, and is associated with the Lake Poets. The poet William Wordsworth, who lived in Grasmere for fourteen years, described it as "the loveliest spot that man hath ever found". A number of popular walks begin near the centre of the village, including the ascent of Helm Crag and a longer route up to Fairfield. The village is also on the route of Alfred Wainwright's Coast to Coast Walk.

  • Cockermouth

    Cockermouth is an ancient market town and civil parish in the Borough of Allerdale in Cumbria, England. The centre of Cockermouth retains much of its historic character and the renovation of Market Place has been completed, now with an artistic and community focus. The Kirkgate Centre is the town's major cultural focus and offers regular historical displays by the Cockermouth Museum Group in addition to holding major cultural events including theatre, international music and world cinema. Other points of interest include Cockermouth Castle, Wordsworth House and the village of Papcastle.

  • Kendal Environs

    Kendal is a market town and civil parish within the South Lakeland District of Cumbria, England. Kendal today is known largely as a centre for tourism, as the home of Kendal mint cake, and as a producer of pipe tobacco and tobacco snuff. Its buildings, mostly constructed with the local grey limestone, have earned it the nickname the Auld Grey Town. Places of interest include Kendal Museum – one of the oldest in the country. Abbot Hall Art Gallery (housed in a Georgian villa), it mounts nationally important exhibitions. Museum of Lakeland Life located in the original stables of Abbot Hall. Castle Howe, Kendal's undisputed first castle, lies on the hill side overlooking the town.

  • Hawkshead

    Hawkshead is a village and civil parish in Cumbria, England. It is one of the main tourist honeypots in the South Lakeland area, and is dependent on the local tourist trade. Hawkshead has a timeless atmosphere and consists of a characterful warren of alleys, overhanging gables and a series of medieval squares. It is eloquently described in William Wordsworth's poem, 'The Prelude'.
