A major port, this large city boasts a rich history in seafaring dating to the 11C onwards, as well as several historic monuments.
Southampton is the largest city in the ceremonial county of Hampshire on the south coast of England. It lies at the confluence of the River Test and River Itchen, with the River Hamble joining to the south of the urban area. Southampton is noted for its association with the RMS Titanic.
The city is home to the longest surviving stretch of medieval walls in England, as well as a number of museums such as Tudor House Museum, Southampton Maritime Museum; God's House Tower, an archaeology museum about the city's heritage; the Medieval Merchant's House; and Solent Sky, which focuses on aviation. The SeaCity Museum which focuses on Southampton's trading history and on the RMS Titanic.
