Known as the "Gateway to Wales," this modern town retains old features of its history dating back to the Roman times.

Abergavenny is a market town in Monmouthshire, Wales, located 6 miles from the English border. Promoted as the "Gateway to Wales", Abergavenny is Situated at the confluence of a tributary stream, the Gavenny, and the River Usk, and surrounded by two mountains – the Blorenge and the Sugar Loaf. The town contains the remains of a medieval stone castle built soon after the Norman conquest of Wales. The town's Market Hall holds Various markets, for example: Tuesdays, Fridays and Saturdays – retail market; Wednesdays – flea market; fourth Thursday of each month - farmers' market. Every september the town holds The Abergavenny Food Festival.
