Ngapali Beach has been promoted as a major tourist destination in Myanmar. Several resorts and hotels are located in Ngapali, usually of the high end - such as Bayview Ngapali, Amata Resort, Amazing Ngapali and also the government owned Anawa. Ngapali used to have private bungalows, but these were torn down in the late 1990s to make way for the development of hotels. The hotels and small tourism industry help to provide income for the villages around Ngapali and also Thandwe. There is also a golf course nearby.

Sittwe is located on an estuarial island created at the confluence of the Kaladan, Mayu, and Lay Mro rivers emptying into the Bay of Bengal. Local attractions include: Viewpoint, or more popularly known as Point is perhaps the most well known attraction in Sittwe. It overlooks the Bay of Bengal and the mouth of the Kaladan River. The hundred year old Shwezedi Monastery was the monastery of U Ottama, who was the first political monk in Myanmar. Pyay-Lone-Chan-Thar Pharagri, the focal point of Sittwe's Buddhist environment, beside Shwezedi Monastery. Ahkyaib-daw, is one of the most sacred Buddhist pagodas, believed to have built in the days of Emperor Asoka (r. 269-232 BCE).
