Svolvær is the administrative centre of Vagan Municipality in Nordland County, Norway. It is located on the island of Austvagoya in the Lofoten archipelago. It is a favourite starting point for tourists visiting the Lofoten islands. Whale watching tours depart from Svolvær in late autumn and winter with a focus on Orcas. Boat excursions to nearby Raftsundet strait and its famous branch Trollfjord is also arranged from Svolvær.

An important fishing village and port, surrounded on one side by water and on the other by protective mountains.

It was the first time my wife and I took a trip where we were dependent on public transport, so being confident in the hotel arrangements was essential to us. The trip was an experiment to see if we would enjoy this kind of holiday, and the answer is a big yes and we intend to go on more ambitious journeys in the future. I found the process really easy. Simple layout and lots of options. It was helpful to see the route, allowing me to choose towns better ensuring that the journey would not take us out of our way. Four of our hotels where within easy walking distance of the city center. The hotels were very easy to find with the use of your paperwork and a sat nav. All in all it was a fantastic holiday visiting five countries in ten days. Five different cultures and five different experiences. I am happy to recommend all the hotels we stayed in.
