Switzerland Uri

Andermatt is a municipality in the canton of Uri in Switzerland, located in a high Alpine Ursern Valle in the Adula Alps. Andermatt has two mountains around it which are used for ski slopes in the winter: Nätschen, which is on the north-east side of Andermatt and Gemsstock, which is on the southern side of Andermatt. Andermatt's ski slopes are part of the Gotthard Oberalp Arena. There is a cable car running from Andermatt to the middle of Gemsstock, and a 2-man chairlift running from Andermatt up to the middle of Nätschen. There are plans to build a new gondola going up each mountain.

Altdorf is the capital of the Swiss canton of Uri. The Museum just south of the centre of the town houses a collection of local antiquities, weapons and regional furniture, as well as a collection of portraits of important Uri citizens, including fine ones by the Andermatt-born Felix Maria Diogg. There are several paintings here by the Swiss-born American artist Adolfo Müller-Ury. The museum was extended in the 1990s. Recently the town has established the Haus für Kunst Uri at Herrengasse 2 in a partly converted historic house with a large contemporary extension creating an attractive exhibition space. The work of Swiss and international contemporary artists from Uri is exhibited here.

Bauen is a municipality on Lake Lucerne in the Swiss canton of Uri. The village lies on the west side of the Urner lake, which is part of the bigger lake Vierwaldstättersee or the Lake of the Four Forest Cantons. Until 1956 the only way to reach the village was over steep footpaths from the neighboring communities. Because of its position on the lake and the Föhn wind, Bauen has a very mild climate.
