    Fontainebleau is a commune in the metropolitan area of Paris, France. Fontainebleau is renowned for the large and scenic forest of Fontainebleau, a favorite weekend getaway for Parisians, as well as for the historical chateau de Fontainebleau, which once belonged to the kings of France.

  • Barbizon, France

    Barbizon is a commune in north-central France. It is located near the Fontainebleau Forest. The Barbizon school of painters is named after the village; Théodore Rousseau and Jean-François Millet, leaders of the school, made their homes and died in the village.

    Rambouillet is a commune in north-central France. Rambouillet lies on the edge of the vast Forest of Rambouillet, and is famous for its historical castle, the Chateau de Rambouillet, which hosted several international summits. Due to its proximity to Paris and Versailles, Rambouillet has long been an occasional seat of government.

  • Rueil-Malmaison

    Rueil-Malmaison is a commune in the western suburbs of Paris, in the Hauts-de-Seine department of France. Rueil is famous for the Chateau de Malmaison where Napoleon and his first wife Josephine de Beauharnais lived. Upon her death in 1814, she was buried at the nearby Saint-Pierre-Saint-Paul church, which stands at the center of the city. The Rueil barracks of the Swiss Guard were constructed in 1756 under Louis XV by the architect Axel Guillaumot, and have been classified Monument historique since 1973.

  • Le Chateau de la Belle au Bois Dormant

    Disneyland Paris, originally Euro Disney Resort, is an entertainment resort in Marne-la-Vallee, a new town located 32 km (20 mi) east of the center of Paris, and is the most visited theme park in all of Europe. The resort covers 4,800 acres (19 km2) and encompasses two theme parks, several resort hotels, a shopping, dining, and entertainment complex, and a golf course, in addition to several additional recreational and entertainment venues. Disneyland Park is the original theme park of the complex, opening with the resort on 12 April 1992. A second theme park, Walt Disney Studios Park opened in 2002.

  • Paris from the west

    Saint-Germain-en-Laye is a commune in north-central France. With its elegant tree-lined streets it is one of the more affluent suburbs of Paris, combining both high-end leisure spots and exclusive residential neighborhoods. Because it includes the National Forest of Saint-Germain-en-Laye, it covers approximately 48 km2, making it the largest commune in the Yvelines. It occupies a large loop of the Seine.
