    Garmisch-Partenkirchen is a mountain resort town in Bavaria, southern Germany. Nearby is Germany's highest mountain, Zugspitze, at 2961 m (9714 ft.). South of Partenkirchen is the Partnach Gorge, where the Partnach river surges spectacularly through a narrow, mile-long gap between high limestone cliffs. The Zugspitze mountain is south of Garmisch. Also overlooking the city is Germany's fourth-highest mountain, the Leutasch Dreitorspitze ("Three-Gate Peak", a name derived from its triple summit). The King's House on Schachen, a small castle built for Ludwig II of Bavaria, is also located in the mountains south of Garmisch-Partenkirchen. Its grounds contain an alpine botanical garden.

  • Berchtesgaden

    Berchtesgaden is a municipality in the German Bavarian Alps. To the south of the city the Berchtesgaden National Park stretches along three parallel valleys. Berchtesgaden is often associated with the Watzmann, at 2,713 m the third-highest mountain in Germany, which is renowned in the rock climbing community for its Ostwand (East Face), and a deep glacial lake by the name of Königssee (5.2 km²). Another notable peak is the Kehlstein mountain (1,835 m) with its Kehlsteinhaus (Eagle's Nest), which offers spectacular views to its visitors.

    Füssen is a town in Bavaria, Germany. The town is known for its violinmaking industry. Attractions in Fussen: The High Castle houses a branch gallery of the Bavarian State Collections of Paintings, which focuses on late Gothic and Renaissance works of art. The oldest fresco in Germany can be found in the crypt of St Mang's Basilica, It dates back to about the year 980. St Mang's Feast Day (6 September) is commemorated with a Holy Mass followed by a procession by torchlight through the old part of the city. During the week of the Saint's Feast a special 'Magnus Wine' is sold, with only 500 bottles produced.

    Tegernsee is a town in Bavaria, Germany. It is located on the shore of Tegernsee lake. The town has its origins in the Tegernsee Abbey, which was founded in 746. Today it is considered a spa town, surrounded by an alpine landscape. The former Benedictine Abbey of Tegernsee is open to visitors. The complex is composed of the parish church of Saint Quirinus, the former abbey church, and the adjacent north and south wings surrounding the two courtyards. The north wing hosts the Ducal Bavarian Brewery of Tegernsee, one of Germany's oldest breweries. Other historic buildings include the houses of writer Ludwig Ganghofer and painter Joseph Karl Stieler

    Bad Reichenhall is a spa town in Upper Bavaria, Germany. It is located near Salzburg in a basin encircled by the Chiemgauer Alps (including Mount Staufen (1,771 m) and Mount Zwiesel (1,781 m)). Bad Reichenhall was awarded Alpine Town of the Year 2001.

    Mittenwald is situated in the Valley of the River Isar, by the northern foothills of the Alps. Mittenwald is famous for the manufacture of violins, violas and cellos which began in the mid-17th century by the Klotz family of violin makers, and has been a popular stop with tourists since the boom in motorized tourism began in the 1930s. The most significant landmark in the village is the pink colored Roman Catholic church of Saints Peter and Paul, which is typical of the region. The church and many of the surrounding buildings, both businesses and private residences, are decorated with elaborate paintings on the exterior walls.
