Egilsstaðir is a town in east Iceland on the banks of the Lagarfljót river. Egilsstaðir has grown to become the largest town of East Iceland and its main service, transportation, and administration centre. some local points of interest in and around town include the Kárahnjúkar Hydropower Plant, Hallormsstaðaskógur forest, Hengifoss waterfall and the mansion of Gunnar Gunnarsson

Established in 1947, this relatively young town is home to the beautiful Lake Logurinn and is enveloped in local legend.
