  • Blick auf Gongju

    Gongju was formerly named Ungjin and was the capital of Baekje from AD 475 to 538. In this period, Baekje was under threat from Goguryeo. Goguryeo had overrun the previous capital of Hanseong (modern-day Seoul), which forced Baekje to find a new center of strength. In 538, King Seong moved the capital to Sabi (in modern-day Buyeo County). However, Gongju remained an important center until the kingdom's fall in 660.

  • Daejeon

    In 1993 an international exposition (Expo '93) was held at Daejeon. Several landmarks, such as the Hanbit Tower and the Expo Bridge, were built at this time. After the exposition ended, the grounds were refurbished as Expo Science Park. Next to the park is the National Science Museum . Most of the cultural centers and sight seeing places are located in Yuseong-gu district with the exception of Ppuri park and Daejeon Zoo. The Daejeon Museum of Art, located in Dunsan Grand Park, is an art museum focused on the convergence of art and technology. Another important cultural institution is the Daejeon Philharmonic Orchestra.

  • Cheongju City seen from the hotel

    Cheongju has been an important provincial town since ancient times. During Hideyoshi's Invasions of Korea, Cheongju was the site of the Battle of Chongju, during which the Korean forces re-took the city from the Japanese forces in an important early victory. The opening of the Chungbuk-line in 1926 sparked regional development. In 1946, Cheongju and Cheongwon-gun were separated, and in 1949, Cheongju was upgraded to Cheongju City. Afterwards, it went through the separation of administrative dong and their transfer to Cheongwon-gun, with 2 branch offices (East and West)established in July 1989 that were upgraded to Sangdang-gu and Heungdeok-gu in January.

  • Kathmandu Asan 2

    Asan is a city in South Chungcheong Province, South Korea. It borders the Seoul Metropolitan Area to the north. Asan is known for its hot springs and is a city of spas. Asan has grown into the neighboring village, Onyang-dong, which is also known for its hot springs.

  • Cheonan

    Cheonan is home to The Independence Hall of Korea is a visual history of the struggle for independence in Korea. Cheonan’s Postal Museum displays postal artifacts and material dating back to 1884, when the first postal services began. The entire history of the Korean postal service is on display. The museum was not constructed here, but rather moved from Seoul in February 2004 to its current home in the Ministry of Information and Communication Officials Training Institute in Cheonan. Gagwonsa Buddhist temple is located on Mt. Taejosan. Located on the temple grounds is a large bronze sitting Buddha, which is 15m high, 30m in circumference, and weighs over 60 tonnes.
