  • Santiago de Compostela

    Santiago de Compostela, the capital of northwest Spain’s Galicia region, is home to the iconic Catedral de Santiago de Compostela which is, according to tradition, the burial place of the biblical James the Apostle who brought the gospel of Christianity to the Iberian Peninsula. For centuries, each pilgrim’s journey culminated with reaching the city and entering the cathedral. In fact, Santiago de Compostela is considered the 3rd most important site of medieval Christianity – taking a back seat only to Jerusalem and Rome. The city’s Old Town, where the cathedral is located, was designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1985.

    Vigo is a city and municipality situated in north-western Spain, in the province of Pontevedra, in the Spanish autonomous community of Galicia on the Atlantic Ocean. The municipality of one of the more important Roman centers of Pontevedra. Although within the city one will not find much Romanesque architecture, it can be seen a few kilometers away from the city center. In many of the municipality's neighborhoods and parishes a large number of Roman ruins remain. Vigo retains some interesting examples of Romanesque churches in southern Galicia.

  • A Coruña

    A Coruna is a city and municipality in Galicia, Spain. A Coruna is a busy port located on a promontory in the entrance of an estuary in a large gulf on the Atlantic Ocean. It provides a distribution point for agricultural goods from the region. The city is the site of the Roman Tower of Hercules, a lighthouse which has been in continuous operation since possibly the 2nd century AD. It has been declared by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site. The city is also well known for its characteristic glazed window balconies, called galerias. The two main beaches of A Coruna (Orzan and Riazor) are located in the heart of the city and are bordered by a promenade.

    Pontevedra is a Spanish city in the north-west of the Iberian Peninsula. An ancient town and medieval port, Pontevedra has been described as a "definitive old Galician town". Sights include the pilgrim chapel in the Praza da Peregrina, the historic Zona Monumental (old city), the Praza de Lena, the market, and the Alameda, a promenade along the ria. Pontevedra has a large pedestrian center (the old town and surroundings) which, together with a number of parks and public squares, makes the city very pleasant for strolling. In recent years most historical buildings and streets have been either re-built or revamped, providing for a well preserved urban landscape.

  • Baiona

    Baiona is a municipality in Galicia, Spain. It is a tourist town with a medieval historical center situated by the outlet of the Vigo Bay. Places of interest in Baiona include : Parador of Baiona. Within the official Spanish category of Paradores of Spain (hotels with a historical and architectural value), Baiona counts with a good example of a well-preserved historical building. Surrounded by a stone wall, sitting in a small peninsula, the old hotel and restaurant watches the entrance of the Rias Baixas and the Cies Islands; Monte Real Yacht Club Baiona; and more.

  • Old town of Tui

    Tui is a town in Galicia, in the province of Pontevedra. The town center is near the Inn of San Telmo. On the top of the hill, the cathedral (11th–13th century) preserves Romanesque elements in its main vestibule, and the Gothic period in the western vestibule. The town has two museums, one dedicated to archaeology and sacred art, and the other is the diocesan museum.

  • Lugo

    Lugo is a city in northwestern Spain in the autonomous community of Galicia. Lugo is the only city in the world to be surrounded by completely intact Roman walls, which reach a height of 10 to 15 meters (33 to 49 feet) along a 2,117 meter circuit ringed with 71 towers. The walk along the top is continuous round the circuit, and features ten gates. These 3rd century walls are protected by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site. The bridge over the Minho is essentially of Roman date, though many repairs over the centuries have effaced its Roman character.

  • Betanzos

    Betanzos is a municipality in the autonomous community of Galicia in northwestern Spain. The town is located in a fertile valley close to the Atlantic Ocean, and it has one of the best preserved old quarters in Galicia. Noteworthy is the Igrexa de San Francisco. The Igrexa de Santiago, built in the 15th century by the guild of tailors, has a main portal decorated with a horseback statue of Saint James. Other sights in the town are several town palaces, a 16th-century clock tower, and the town walls, which preserve three of their original four gates.
