Switzerland Zurich

Zurich is the largest city in Switzerland. It is located at the northwestern tip of Lake Zurich. Zurich is home to many churches and houses of the old town, the most expensive shops along the famous Bahnhofstrasse, as well as world-class museums, operas, and theater. The Lindenhof in the old town is the historical site of the Roman castle, and the later Carolingian Imperial Palace. Zurich offers a great deal of variety when it comes to night-time leisure. It is the host city of the world-famous Street Parade, which takes place in August every year. Zurich is known for its nightlife, offering a huge variety of restaurants, bars, and night clubs.

The embanked lakeshore forms a promenade with glorious views of the snowy peaks of the Bernese Oberland, as well as of the Rigi and Pilatus. Zug also boasts striking 15C architecture as well as some quaint old painted houses, a Capuchin convent, and the fine new parish church of St Michael (1902). There are several modern buildings close to the shore. While the lowland area of Zug, Baar, Steinhausen and Cham are quite urbanized, we see that Ennetsee, with Risch and Hüneneberg, despite a building boom, have kept their rustic side. In Ägeri, Menzingen and Neuheim you find yourself in a totally different landscape, as is also the case in Walchwil, the ‘riviera’ of Lake Zug.

Winterthur is a city in the canton of Zürich. Winterthur's chamber orchestra is the oldest in Switzerland, and also plays at the Zürich Opera. Musikfestwochen, in late August and early September, sees Winterthur’s Old Town taken over for live music of all kinds, in the streets, bars and concert venues. In 1989, Winterthur received the Wakker Prize for the development and preservation of its architectural heritage, among these sites are the church of St. Laurenz in the city centre, the town hall, and the assembly hall. The annual Open Doors art festival takes place during the last weekend of September and provides artists with means to independently promote their art in any way they choose.
