Surabaya is the capital of Jawa Timur (East Java), located on northeastern Java island and along the edge of the Madura Strait and the second-largest-city in Indonesia. Kebun Binatang Surabaya (Surabaya Zoo) or KBS, opened in 1916, was the first in the world to have successfully bred orangutans in captivity. Other interesting destinations include: Masjid Cheng Ho (Zheng He Mosque), a recently built mosque, the first in Indonesia with Chinese-style architecture; Tugu Pahlawan (Hero monument), a 41 meter high monument, is the main symbol of Surabaya and commemorates the heroes of the revolutionary struggle; and Pantai Kenjeran (Kenjeran Beach), located in the eastern of Surabaya.

Indonesia's second-biggest city is home to museums, mosques, parks, and markets, and boasts a rich cosmopolitan charm.

Surakarta, often called Solo and less commonly Sala, is a city in Central Java. One main tourist attraction of Surakarta is the Keraton Surakarta, the palace of Susuhunan Pakubuwono. Pasar Gede market is often visited by tourists, mostly for its unique architecture and fame as the biggest traditional market in the Solo area. Taman Sriwedari is a popular park featuring a children's playground, dangdut music performance, and traditional Javanese dance performance almost every night. Near the park is Radyapustaka Museum, one of the oldest museums in Indonesia. The traditional batik village of Laweyan and Kampung Batik Kauman are famous for producing fine quality Javanese batik.

Palembang is the second-largest city on Sumatra island. Palembang is one of the oldest cities in Indonesia, and has a history of being the capital city of the Kingdom of Srivijaya, a powerful Malay kingdom, which influenced much of Southeast Asia. Palembang's main landmarks include Ampera Bridge and Musi River, the latter of which divides the city into two. The north bank of river in Palembang is known as Seberang Ilir and the south bank of the river in Palembang is known as Seberang Ulu. This city was known as a host city for 2011 Southeast Asian Games. Additionally, 2018 Asian Games is going to be held in the city along with Jakarta.
