  • Iznik

Iznik is a town and an administrative district in the Province of Bursa, Turkey. It was historically known as Nicaea, and in the 16C became a major center of a local faience pottery-making industry during the Ottoman period. Iznik tiles were used to decorate many of the mosques in Istanbul designed by Mimar Sinan. Much of the city's elaborate fortification system survives and as a result it is a tourist destination. Its main sights include Hacı Ozbek Mosque, Yesil Mosque of Iznik, Suleyman Pasa Madrasa, Church of the Koimesis, and more.
