Sumenep is a town on Madura Island in Indonesia; it is the administrative capital of Sumenep Regency, in East Java Province. Hugely prosperous in the eighteenth century, it is now a quiet, peaceful backwater, with its past glory still in evidence.

Formerly the capital of a local kingdom, this town now offers a nice atmosphere, interesting historic buildings, and a nearby beach.

I happened to find RoutePerfect.com just by Google search when my wife and I were talking about the possibility of traveling in Europe.
