  • Split

    In 1979, the historic center of Split was included into the UNESCO list of World Heritage Sites. Split is said to be one of the centres of Croatian culture. Its literary tradition can be traced to medieval times, and includes names like Marko Marulić, while in more modern times Split excelled by authors famous for their sense of humor. Among them the most notable is Miljenko Smoje, famous for his TV series Malo misto and Velo misto, with the latter dealing with the development of Split into a modern city.

  • Hvar

    Hvar’s location at the center of the Adriatic sailing routes has long made this island an important base for commanding. It has been inhabited since prehistoric times, originally by a Neolithic people whose distinctive pottery gave rise to the term Hvar culture, and later by the Illyrians. The ancient Greeks founded the colony of Pharos in 384 BC on the site of today’s Stari Grad, making it one of the oldest towns in Europe. They were also responsible for setting out the agricultural field divisions of the Stari Grad Plain, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Prosperity brought culture and the arts, with one of the first public theatres in Europe, nobles’ palaces and many fine communal buildings.

    Trogir is a historic town and harbour on the Adriatic coast in Split-Dalmatia County, Croatia. The historic city of Trogir is situated on a small island between the Croatian mainland and the island of Čiovo. It lies 27 kilometres (17 miles) west of the city of Split. Since 1997, the historic centre of Trogir has been included in theUNESCO list of World Heritage Sites.

  • Bol

    Bol is renowned for its most popular beach, the Zlatni Rat ("Golden cape) is a promontory, composed mostly of pebble rock that visibly shifts with the tidal movement, a unique sight. The sea at Zlatni Rat and, indeed, the entire area is quite crystalline due to the strong current of the strait it is situated in. On a still day the stones on the sea-floor that are 30 feet down look only an arm's length away, and there are spectacular pine trees that grow down the middle of Zlatni Rat. Bol itself is a very popular tourist destination and has a number of harbourside bars and restaurants. Bol is a popular place in the Adriatic Sea, known for good wind surfing conditions.

    In the 20th century intensive industrialisation process of the Split basin made Solin no more than a suburb of Split. Today, with its independent municipal status, Solin is part of the Split conurbation, well connected with other towns. Besides industry, a tourism is being developed lately based on numerous archaeological sites and Solin's distinctive image that comes from many urban parks along the Jadro.

    The town of Vis is located in a relatively large and protected bay (Croatian: Uvala Svetog Jurja, English: Bay of Saint George) on the north-east side of the island facing the island of Hvar and the Dalmatian mainland. The port of Vis is located in the south-west part of the bay. The port is protected from open sea influence by the islet of Host (named after William Hoste) and the peninsula called Prirovo (sometimes spelled "Prilovo"). Other ports are smaller and located in Kut and Stonca, which are also parts of the town of Vis.

  • Makarska

    It is a tourist centre, located on a horseshoe shaped bay between the Biokovo mountains and the Adriatic Sea. The city is noted for its palm-fringed promenade, where fashionable cafes, bars and boutiques overlook the pretty harbour where many pleasure craft are moored. Adjacent to the beach are several large capacity hotels as well as a camping ground. The center of Makarska is an old town with narrow stone-paved streets, a main church square where there is a flower and fruit market, and a Franciscan monastery that houses a sea shell collection featuring a giant clam shell.

    The town is situated approximately 16 miles south-east of Croatia's second largest city, Split. Its location is where the emerald-green Cetina River meets the Adriatic Sea The Omiš Riviera stretches for 12 miles along a coast of exceptional beauty, with many perfect pebble, sandy beaches, bays, steep cliffs and a crystal clear sea. The Cetina River is a great place for those who like active holidays (white water rafting, canoeing and kayaking). Recreational activities, in Omiš, also include: free climbing, cycling, tennis, football (soccer), basketball, 9-pin bowling, bocce, paragliding, beach volleyball, windsurfing, water-skiing, sea kayaking, waterpolo and scuba diving.

  • Supetar port

    The Parish church of St. Peter stands on the side of an old chapel which was restored in 1773 in a Baroque architectural style. At that time it also received a new aisle and bell tower. It was extended in 1887. In the church there are paintings by the local artist Feliks Tironi and an 18C Baroque altarpiece by an unknown Venetian artist. In the old part of the church there are gravestones with Croatian writing. On the left of the church building there is a sundial and beneath it a sarcophagus with the date 1774 engraved. Supetar graveyard beside the Chapel St. Nicholas there are two old Christian sarcophagi and several gravestones and the mausoleum of the Petrinović family.

    Okrug is a municipality located on the western side of the island of Čiovo, Croatia. It is the centre of the Dalmatian micro region by its geographical position. It has a mild Mediterranean climate, dense subtropical and Mediterranean vegetation, an archipelago of little islands, little bays and beaches. Okrug is claimed to be one of the most attractive tourist destinations in Croatia with its 2,670 sunny hours per year. There are a lot of restaurants and taverns in Okrug Gornji and Donji with a rich choice of original Dalmatian specialties.

    Podstrana experiences a hot-summer Mediterranean climate with extremely long periods of sunshine throughout the year and a mild winter. Spring and fall (autumn) are considered ideal seasons for sightseeing and all kinds of outdoor activities. Summers are very hot during the day, and hot in the summer nights. The settlement is housed in a fairly rural landscape considering its proximity to the nearby city of Split.

  • Jelsa

    Founded as the port for the community of Pitve, Jelsa grew in importance over the centuries. During the 19C, it was one of the most significant maritime, shipbuilding and trade centers of the Adriatic, a starting point for a fleet of ocean-going sailing vessels carrying best wines of Hvar, olive oil and salted fish. The wine industry was nearly destroyed by phylloxera in the latter half of the 19C. Modern Jelsa is a bustling town, with many small businesses. It is an important tourist center, with regular passenger catamaran services to Split. Tourism "officially" began in 1868, though it has been practiced as far back as ancient Roman times. The oldest hotel in Jelsa dates to 1911.
